A violent and uncontrolled forest fire is raging on the Canary Island of Tenerife. More than 3,300 hectares are now affected. During the night, 226 firefighters were deployed on the ground. At sunrise, 17 fire-fighting aircraft and helicopters will continue their mission.
Over 3,000 people have already been evacuated from their homes and apartments. Numerous buildings have already burned down completely.
The government is asking people to keep windows closed and wear FFP2 masks.
The greatest danger at the moment is that the fire will spread to the Teide National Park.
Weather forecast: A fresh breeze from the northeast, with gusts of up to 40 km/h, will fan the fires further. Rain is of course not in sight at this time of year.
