The coming week will bring hot to extremely hot weather to large parts of Europe. In Italy, Spain, and France, local daily highs of over 40°C are expected.
However, a look at our latest GFS trend forecast shows that the heat could become even more intense starting next weekend. According to the forecast, another Omega high is forming over Central Europe, drawing in hot air from North Africa and trapping it. The GFS trend forecast indicates that temperatures of over 45°C are possible. New records could be set.
The current heat record in Spain dates back to August 14, 2021. The La Rambla weather station (Andalusian province of Cordoba) recorded a high of 47.6°C.
In Italy, an incredible 48.8°C was measured in Sicily (Floridia/Siracus) on August 11, 2021. In Sardinia, on July 19, 2023, Sestu recorded 47.3 °C.
In France, on June 28, 2019, Veragues measured 46 °C.
In Germany, a new record of 41.7 °C was recorded in Coschen on June 28, 2026.
