meteo365.es on tour. We were on the road again under this heading. Our destination was the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia. On July 31st we traveled from Malaga and parked in the Las Sabinas area at 2,200 meters. In the evening the air cooled down to a wonderful 22 °C, in Malaga we started at 38 °C. The air is clean and the humidity was only 29%. There are no mosquitoes!
On the morning of August 1st we set off early. The goal was the mountain peak of Veleta 3,398. We didn´t reach it and had to give up at 3,100 meters. But we took a longer break in the Tubo del Veleta and enjoyed this incredible panorama and even had the energy for a snowball fight.
The view of the Veleta peak and the highest mountain Mulhacen (3,478 meters) and its neighbor Alcazaba (3,366 meters) was breathtaking. On the side of the mountain that was sheltered from the wind, our thermometer showed 29 °C. On the side that was not sheltered from the wind, we had gusts of 75 km/h and 20 °C.
At the end of the day, we had covered 16 kilometers of mountain and in the evening we reached Malaga again at 39 °C.
Info: The Mulhacén is the highest mountain on the Spanish mainland. Only the Teide on Tenerife is higher at 3,718 meters.
