Fresh spring water year-round in El Burgo

Hiking in September in the Sierra de las Nieves

The reservoirs in the province of Málaga are almost empty at the beginning of September. There is widespread drought, and numerous water-saving measures are in place.

On Friday, September 6th, 2024, we went hiking in El Burgo in the Sierra de las Nieves. Our 14k-hike took us to the source of the Turón river. No sign of water scarcity here. Fresh spring water bubbles everywhere from the karst mountains, and the small ponds invite you to swim. The landscape is breathtaking, and the climate at this time of year, with 29°C and low humidity, is perfect.
