A cold drop, called DANA in Spain, is very complicated to forecast. It is clear that not every cold drop has to lead to torrential rain.
From Sunday, a cold drop will be building up over the Canary Islands and the ICON EU forecast currently shows that there may be heavy rain locally, but that torrential rain will not occur. Here are a few current forecasts: Santa Cruz de la Palma 3.2 mm of rain on Sunday and 24 mm of rain on Monday. Santa Cruz de Tenerife 3.4 mm of rain on Sunday and 20 mm of rain on Monday. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 12 mm of rain on Sunday and 7.2 mm of rain on Monday.
It is important to know that even with just 20 mm of rain, landslides can occur in the Canary Islands and these often hit the roads. Holidaymakers should therefore postpone their day trips to the higher areas of the islands.
