We´ve been living and working in Malaga for several years now and are always looking for new sights. On Monday, we set our sights on the Puente Colgante El Saltillo (Rio Almanchares) in the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park.
Our route took us over the Montes de Malaga to Vinuela (the reservoir is now 50% full again after the rains) and then to Canillas de Aceituno, the starting point of our hike to the Puente Colgante El Saltillo at the foot of La Maroma Peak (2069m). The bridge is 78 meters high, 50 meters long, and 1.2 meters wide. No more than 10 people are allowed on the bridge at the same time. Anyone with a fear of heights should avoid the bridge!
The weather also cooperated; at 18°C to 20°C, it was neither too hot nor too cold, and we didn´t see more than 20 hikers. The perfect time of year!
There are various access points to the destination, each with different routes, distances, and levels of difficulty. Wikiloc helps everyone find the right approach.
The hiking trails are very challenging, and you should definitely wear the right shoes and have some practice and fitness.
The rains have turned everything green and blooming like never before. The numerous waterfalls of the Rio Almanchares carry a lot of water, and access via the Rio Almanchares is really only suitable for extreme sports enthusiasts these days.
