Malaga

The Source of the Rio Genal is an Experience

A Day in the Serranía de Ronda

The province of Malaga is much more than just beach life on the Costa del Sol. Inland, the province of Malaga boasts incredibly beautiful regions with flora and fauna. The mountainous and forested Serranía de Ronda, in particular, is an area little explored by tourists.

meteo365.es started its day trip yesterday, Saturday, in Igualeja. If you live and work in Malaga and are confronted daily with the polluted rivers of the Rio Guadalhorce and Rio Guadalmedina, then Igualeja is a true revelation. The Rio Genal originates in a cave there. Crystal-clear and clean water in abundance, and that at the end of May. The Rio Genal is 60 km long and flows into the Rio Guadiaro in Sotogrande Campo (Ermita de la Virgen del Rosario del Campo). By the way, there's an outdoor swimming pool in Igualeja, which is fed by the spring of the Rio Genal.

We then continued through the beautiful town of Cartajima to Juzcar, the Smurf village. The idea of coloring the village blue came about in connection with the movie "The Smurfs." In short: You can visit it, but you don't have to.

Our next destination was the mountain landscape near Jubrique. This magnificent route, with numerous spectacular viewpoints, then took us via Farajan, Alpandeire, Atajate, and Algatocin to Jubrique. From there, we took the MA-8301 towards Puerto de Peñas Blancas at the foot of Pico de los Reales (1,452 m).

Note: We aborted the ascent to Pico de los Reales with our OB-Van halfway through. This access is simply too narrow with oncoming traffic, and the left and right slopes downhill unhindered.

Conclusion: If you like nature, hiking in the mountains and lots of peace and quiet, you should definitely take the time to explore the Serranía de Ronda.
