April 2023 will go down in history as the warmest and driest April in the history of Andalusia. It has been particularly warm at the Costa del Sol which can be shown by taking our weather station in Torremolinos as an example:
In April 2021, the mean peak temperature amounted to 22,2 °C. 8 rainy days with 34,8 l/m².
In April 2022, the mean peak temperature amounted to 23,3 °C. 7 rainy days with 28,8 l/m².
In April 2023, the mean peak temperature amounted to 26,6 °C. 0 rainy days with 0 l/m².
Our ongoing hourly forecast (
meteo365.es) for the next 10 days indicates that 2 l/m² of precipitation might fall in Torremolinos on May 7th, 2023. However, it is still too early to be sure and, most importantly, 2 mm would make no difference. Statistically, there usually is no noteworthy precipitation in May at the Costa del Sol. From June to August/September the prospects of noteworthy precipitation are even slimmer and so the water stress of the reservoirs continues to take on a dramatic scale.
