The Spanish meteorological service AEMET has been measuring and recording weather data since 1961. Now, AEMET declares that the meteorological summer of 2025 was the warmest on record. The average temperature on the peninsula was 24.2 °C, 2.1 °C above the long-term average.
We don't doubt that we are experiencing a global warming episode!!
But we have questions specifically about Spain!
What role does this play?
1. The increasing devastation caused by intensive fruit and vegetable cultivation?
2. The rapid expansion of cities without the necessary shade provided by green spaces?
3. The lack of reforestation of thousands of hectares of burned forests?
4. How has the monitoring network changed since 1961? Are there a higher percentage of monitoring stations in Andalusia than in Asturias?
We believe these questions are important for drawing the right conclusions from these measurements. Spreading panic without addressing all the factors is not a good way to address this important issue.
