Málaga: Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport continues its growth trajectory and reached another historic record high in May 2026. According to airport operator Aena, a total of 2,748,494 passengers used Andalusia’s main air transport hub last month. This represents an increase of 6.3 percent compared to the same month last year. At the same time, 18,473 flight movements were recorded, up 2.8 percent year-on-year.

The vast majority of travelers used scheduled commercial and charter flights. International connections once again dominated traffic figures: 2,335,207 passengers traveled on international routes, while 411,267 passengers used domestic flights within Spain.

United Kingdom remains the leading international market

Among international source markets, the United Kingdom maintained its clear leading position. A total of 659,628 passengers traveled between Málaga and British airports in May. Germany followed with 213,641 passengers, ahead of the Netherlands with 161,372, France with 152,611, and Italy with 146,786 travelers.

The airport’s strong international focus is also reflected in flight operations. Of the 18,473 takeoffs and landings recorded during the month, 14,734 were international commercial flights, while 3,560 were domestic commercial services.

Record figures also for the year to date

The positive trend is equally evident in the year-to-date results. During the first five months of 2026, Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport handled 10,455,108 passengers, representing growth of 7.1 percent compared with the same period last year. Meanwhile, the number of flight movements rose to 72,350 takeoffs and landings, an increase of 4.3 percent.

Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport is thus strengthening its role as Andalusia’s most important international gateway and remains one of Spain’s fastest-growing airports. Continued strong tourism demand from the United Kingdom, Germany, and other European markets is driving passenger growth and is expected to contribute to further record-breaking figures throughout the upcoming summer season.
