Locally severe weather in Valencia

Ex-Hurricane Gabrielle brings no rain to Malaga

The arrival of ex-Hurricane Gabrielle in Spain was eagerly awaited on Sunday. Different weather models produced very different forecasts.

Note that there were no severe weather on the Costa del Sol; the GFS weather model clearly had the edge over ICON. There wasn't a single drop of rain in Malaga.

The situation was different in eastern Spain. Valencia city reported 110 mm of rain per square meter, and in Barx (50 km south of Valencia), there was a truly severe storm on Monday, with 239 mm of rain per square meter causing massive flooding.

Note: Maps and reports were circulating on social media predicting up to 735 mm of rain south of Cullera and even claiming to have detected a DANA. What's astonishing is how much users responded to these sensationalist reports. Our advice: Please seek out reputable providers to assess the current weather conditions and the current hourly forecast.

And so it continues. Some rain in the eastern part of the peninsula this morning, easing towards the afternoon. The next few days in Spain will see significantly more sunshine and rising temperatures.
