Storm Claudia causes severe weather

Our forecast predicted severe weather in western Andalusia on Saturday evening. An orange weather warning was issued. In the province of Malaga, we focused on the region of Cortes de la Frontera and Jubrique, and accordingly, we drove our OB-Van to this area. We were not disappointed.

Within a very short time, torrential rain brought 87 mm of rain to Alpandeire and 79 mm to Cortes de la Frontera. Landslides ensued and we had a particularly lucky escape when huge boulders crashed onto the road (MA8401 near Barrida de la Estacion) right in front of us. Naturally, we cleared the rocks from the road to protect following motorists from accidents.

Things got really bad on the MA 8301 from Jubrique to Los Reales. There were huge rocks lying across the road that we couldn't move. Gusts of wind also knocked down trees, and the MA 8301 was even temporarily impassable. Together with residents of Jubrique, we sawed up the tree and cleared it from the road.

Unfortunately, despite an orange weather warning, we didn't see any vehicles from the Protección Civil, the Diputacion Malaga or even a police car.
