Almeria - A Perceptible Earthquake Causes Fear

Earthquake of Magnitude 5.4

It is 7:13 a.m. on Monday morning. Thirty kilometers off the coast of Almeria, an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 occurs. The tremor is centered at a depth of 2 kilometers. The quake is even registered in Malaga.

At 7:15 a.m., cell phones ring. A warning goes out. Put on your shoes, turn off the gas. You don't want to be woken up like that.

Of course, the region is at the top of the earthquake danger list, as the African Plate is continuously shifting toward the Eurasian Plate.

We also remember the earthquake of May 11, 2011, in Lorca. A 5.1 magnitude quake claimed nine lives and injured around 300 people. The building structure in Andalusia is not really suitable for major earthquakes.
