The August heatwave, from August 3rd to 18th, lasted 16 days and brought an anomaly of 4.6°C. This makes it the most intense heatwave Spain has ever recorded.
Since 1975, 77 heatwaves have been recorded on the Spanish mainland and the Balearic Islands. Six of these had an anomaly of 4°C or more. Five of the heatwaves occurred since 2019.
According to AEMET, the Spanish Meteorological Institute, heatwaves endanger people's health and increase the risk of forest fires. AEMET further explains that climate change is responsible for the temperature rise and the heatwaves.
meteo365.es position: We do not doubt the data. We are indeed in a period of global warming. However, we note that forest fires are usually started by arson. Most forest fires can be brought under control with sufficient personnel, firefighting aircraft, and helicopters. Unfortunately, the socialist government is not providing sufficient resources, and the damage is correspondingly extensive.
In recent years, several hundred thousand hectares of forest have been burned and not actively reforested. Therefore, the question must be asked: what role does the lack of shade provided by forests play in the increase in anomalies?
Conclusion: Hysteria is getting us nowhere. Much more research is needed to address these connections.
