Malaga Airport overtakes Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport

Malaga Airport booming again in January 2026

Malaga Airport set a historic record in 2025, registering 26,760,540 passengers. This places Malaga Airport 4th among the busiest airports in Spain, behind Mallorca, Barcelona and Madrid.

The boom continues uninterrupted in 2026. In January 2026, Malaga Airport recorded 1,440,295 passengers, ranking 3rd among the busiest airports in Spain. Compared to January 2025, this represents an increase of 5.1%.

This is something of a small sensation, as it is the first time in a January that Malaga Airport has handled more passengers than Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Airport, which now ranks 4th. Clearly, Malaga and the Costa del Sol are overtaking the holiday island of Gran Canaria as a winter destination.
