A bright fireball off the coast of Málaga
On 20 September a fireball outshone the full moon over the Costa del Sol - our port webcam in Málaga caught the moment.
Last Sunday, 20 September, at 20:47 (CEST), a spectacular fireball crossed the sky off the coast of Málaga. With an estimated absolute magnitude of around -14, it shone brighter than the full moon and was seen across large parts of eastern and southern Spain: Andalusia, the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands and the Region of Murcia.
The Spanish Meteor and Fireball Network (SPMN), which has catalogued it as #SPMN200926K, describes it as a fireball of sporadic origin - that is, not associated with any known meteor shower.
And we captured it too: our webcam at the port of Málaga recorded the moment live.
