Sevilla reaches 41.3°C in an extraordinary late-September heat finale

Spain has experienced another remarkable day of extreme late-season heat. On Saturday, 26 September, temperatures exceeded 40°C in parts of Andalusia, while no fewer than 155 weather stations recorded 35°C or higher. Sevilla topped today's measurements with an exceptional 41.3°C. A significant change in the weather is now expected from Sunday.
Even on 26 September, terms such as extreme heat remain appropriate in parts of the country. Saturday brought exceptionally high temperatures, particularly across southwestern and southern Spain.
The standout measurement came from Sevilla, Tablada, where the temperature climbed to 41.3°C.
Nearby Almonte reached 40.5°C, while several other locations approached the 40-degree mark. Montoro recorded 39.5°C, Écija 39.0°C and Badajoz 38.1°C.
Perhaps even more striking is the geographical extent of the heat: 155 weather stations recorded maximum temperatures of at least 35°C on Saturday.
For the final weekend of September, Spain is once again experiencing conditions more reminiscent of the height of summer than the beginning of autumn.
Madrid reached 34.0°C, while temperatures above 30°C were also measured along parts of Spain's Mediterranean coast and on the Balearic Islands.
Our selected measurements included 31.2°C in Benidorm, 31.8°C at Sant Joan de Labritja on Ibiza and 31.5°C at Llucmajor on Mallorca.
Meanwhile, conditions were noticeably less hot in parts of northern Spain. Bilbao Airport recorded 27.0°C, demonstrating once again the remarkable regional contrasts that can occur across the Iberian Peninsula on the same day.

Saturday is likely to have been the final day of this year with heat of this intensity. From Sunday onwards, a change in the weather pattern begins to take shape, bringing an end to this exceptional episode of late-September heat.
