In the province of Malaga, the lack of rainfall in recent years has led to massive restrictions on water use.

The reservoirs were empty. In October 2024, the La Viñuela reservoir had a volume of only 13.6%, the Limonero reservoir 15.3%, and the three reservoirs (near Caminito del Rey) del Guadalteba 11.72%, Gudalhorce 8.02%, and Conde del Guadalhorce 20.69%.
Since February 28, 2025, however, there have been five storms, and these finally brought significant rainfall again. As of April 8, 2025, the La Viñuela reservoir has a capacity of 47.94%, Limonero 64.32%, Guadalhorce 43.73%, del Guadalteba 48.84%, and Conde del Guadalhorce 99.35%. The Conde del Guadalhorce reservoir, in particular, benefited from the fact that the Turon River carries water as far as El Burgo.
