meteo365.es visits the Axarquia and picks mangos

The astronomical start of autumn is also the time when the mango trees in the Axarquia bear fruit. meteo365.es visited the Axarquia on Thursday and picked a few kilos of mangos directly from the trees.

Mangos are currently in season
The Axarquia is the center for mango and avocado cultivation. Currently, the farmer receives 65 cents for a kilo of mango from the retailer, which then sells it for +/- €2.65 in the store. This is a loss-making business for most farmers, as competitors from Morocco offer mangos significantly cheaper. Many Andalusian farmers have now also rented plantations in Morocco to remain competitive. But even if Morocco weren't a competitor, there is simply far more bid than ask.

In any case, anyone who likes mangos can look forward to very good quality from the Axarquia. Picking mangos fresh from the tree and then preparing them at home is a truly wonderful taste experience. You can slice and enjoy them plain, or use them to make juice, compote, jam, ice cream and chutney.

By the way, 100 grams of mangoes contain 30 mg of vitamin C, which covers about 30% of an adult's daily requirement.

And the weather in the Axarquia is currently perfect, mostly sunny with highs of 25°C until Sunday. On Monday and Tuesday, the low-pressure system from former Hurricane Gabrielle will bring some rain.
