Autumn 2026 starts with extreme heat – up to 44 °C in Andalusia
Córdoba, Seville and Badajoz climb past 40 °C this week, while the Mediterranean coast stays at a pleasant 28 to 30 °C.

Meteorological autumn begins on 1 September – but at first there will be very little sign of it in the weather. Quite the opposite: extreme heat returns to parts of Spain this week.
Andalusia and Extremadura will be hit hardest, with temperatures once again climbing well above the 40 °C mark.
Along the coasts, conditions will be far more pleasant. On the Mediterranean, daytime highs in Málaga, Valencia and Barcelona will mostly range between 28 and 30 °C, and the Balearic Islands are expected to see 29 to 31 °C.
Particularly interesting: the maps are based on the ICON-EU forecast from 31 August 2026, 00 UTC. The signal for exceptionally intense heat at the start of September is remarkable – although the exact maximum temperatures may still change with the coming model runs.
