Spain's national weather service Aemet has verified Thursday's readings: 45.7 °C in the province of Huelva, the highest value ever measured in September.

Daily highs for Thursday, 3 September 2026
45.7 °C in El Granado: Spain's national weather service Aemet has checked and confirmed Thursday's readings – the station at El Granado in the Andalusian province of Huelva reached 45.7 °C.

According to Aemet, this is the highest temperature ever recorded in Spain during the month of September. It is also the highest reading of this summer of 2026. On Thursday we already reported 45.1 °C at Seville-Tablada – with the verified figure from El Granado, the mark now sits a good half a degree higher.

El Granado sits in the far west of Andalusia, close to the Portuguese border on the Guadiana. The Guadiana basin has for years been among the hottest corners of the Iberian Peninsula – so the location of this record comes as little surprise to forecasters.
