43 °C in Córdoba and Seville: autumn has only just begun, but an extreme heat spell is pushing temperatures across Andalusia and Extremadura to levels that feel more like peak summer than the 3rd of September.
The interior is bearing the brunt of it, with Córdoba and Seville soaring to 43 °C, Badajoz to 42 °C and Plasencia to 40 °C. Even Madrid, Toledo, Ciudad Real and Granada sit at a striking 37 to 39 °C – numbers you'd normally expect in July or August, not now.
Along the coast, the picture couldn't be more different: Tarifa reports 25 °C, Málaga and Almería 28 °C, and Barcelona and Girona around 30 to 34 °C. Anyone hoping to escape the scorching heat will find far more bearable conditions by the sea.
Anyone heading inland should steer well clear of the midday sun, drink plenty of water and keep a close eye on elderly relatives, children and pets – these are temperatures that demand real caution!
