Twelve aircraft against the flames
The Benahavís fire, tracked by our ADS-B network
During the wildfire that broke out this Sunday in Benahavís (Málaga), the meteo365.es ADS-B antenna network recorded a total of twelve aircraft working over the fire: four water-bombers, seven helicopters and one more aeroplane. The first helicopter, a Bell 412, reached the area at 13:03. By 15:26 there were up to six aircraft over the fire at the same time, and the aerial work continued until dusk: we tracked the last one on our antennas at 18:45.
The backbone: four Air Tractor AT-802
The bulk of the aerial attack was made up of four Air Tractor AT-802. This single-engine turboprop, built in Texas, is the largest single-engine agricultural aircraft in the world and can drop about 3,000 litres of water per pass. Two of them were Fire Boss, the float-equipped version able to scoop water directly from reservoirs or the sea.
The biggest: an INFOCA Super Puma
The largest helicopter in the sky was a Super Puma of the INFOCA plan. These machines can carry up to 16 firefighters to the ground and their tank holds around 3,500 litres. According to our data, the Super Puma landed several times next to the work area between 13:37 and 14:33. It was joined by a Bell 412, two Bell 212 and two Leonardo AW119 Koala, lighter helicopters that drop water in quick succession.
