After an unusually warm spell, a clear change in the weather is on the way in Spain at the end of the month. The latest ICON-EU forecasts from meteo365.es show that the intense heat is retreating, while rain and at times gusty winds spread across parts of the country.

Monday: still summery, with rain in the northwest

On Monday, 28 September, daytime highs will still be summery in many places. Bilbao is currently forecast to reach around 30°C, Toledo 29°C and Madrid 27°C. Along the Mediterranean coast it stays pleasantly warm at about 26 to 28°C.

At the same time, rain reaches the west and northwest. Galicia in particular looks set to turn distinctly wet: around 26 mm is calculated for A Coruña over the course of the day and about 21 mm for Vigo. Showers also move through farther inland, while the south and large parts of the country stay considerably drier for now.

Tuesday: rain reaches Barcelona and Girona

On Tuesday the focus shifts. The northwest stays changeable and windy, while the risk of rain also increases in the northeast and along parts of the Mediterranean coast. The model calculates around 21 mm for Barcelona and 15 mm for Girona, for example.

The temperature contrast is striking: while parts of the north already turn much cooler, Andalusia can heat up once more. Seville and Córdoba are expected to reach around 31°C.

Wednesday: up to 7 degrees cooler in the north, gusts around 70 km/h

By Wednesday, 30 September, cooler air pushes further across northern and central Spain. Bilbao, for example, falls from around 30°C on Monday to just 24°C, and Burgos from 25 to about 18°C.

At the same time, a pronounced band of rain moves across the west and north of the Iberian Peninsula. The current calculations show about 21 mm near Plasencia, 17 mm in Bilbao, 15 mm in Burgos and 15 mm in Badajoz, among others. On top of that the wind can pick up sharply, especially in the north, with calculated gusts of around 70 km/h in the Bilbao area.

The southeast looks very different: it stays largely dry and warm, still feeling like late summer. Murcia could even reach 31°C again on Wednesday, Valencia about 30°C.

In short: Spain's final days of September bring a real change in the weather, though not everywhere at once. Northern, western and parts of central Spain turn cooler, windier and wetter, while the south and southeast enjoy late-summer weather for longer.

The forecast is based on the ICON-EU model run from 26 September 2026, 00 UTC. Details on rainfall and regional focal points may still change before the start of the week.
