Calima takes control of the Balearic Islands
Next week, a powerful cloud of Saharan dust will move northwards and spread across large parts of the Mediterranean region.

Right at the heart of it: the Balearic Islands, including Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca
Air currents from North Africa will transport large amounts of fine desert dust across the western Mediterranean. As a result, the sky may at times appear milky, hazy or yellowish, while visibility could also be significantly reduced.
What does this mean for the Balearic Islands?

Fine dust settling on cars, balconies and terraces
If it rains, mud rain – sometimes known as “blood rain” – may occur locally
For holidaymakers on Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca, Saharan dust does not automatically mean bad holiday weather. The phenomenon known as Calima is often mainly noticeable through unusually hazy skies and reduced visibility.
