About this webcam

The live weather webcam looks out over the rooftops of Ceuta onto the harbour and out into the Strait of Gibraltar. Below, the harbour mole pushes into the sea, and beyond it lie and pass cargo ships, tankers and the fast ferries that connect Ceuta with mainland Spain. On the horizon the European coast appears – depending on the haze, sometimes clearly visible, sometimes only a pale silhouette. Ceuta is a Spanish city on African soil: an exclave on the north coast of Morocco, right by the strait. The harbour is its heart – ferry link to Algeciras, supply point for ships and cargo hub all at once. Off the coast runs one of the busiest waterways in the world, where hundreds of ships pass every day between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Above the city rises Monte Hacho, known in antiquity as one of the Pillars of Hercules. Through the camera you can see how clear the view across the strait is, how busy the harbour is and how the sea is running – with a strong Levante it quickly turns choppy here. We also show the readings from our weather station in Ceuta, the hourly forecast, the wave forecast and the tides.
