The live weather webcam looks out from Granada, over wooded slopes with cypresses and pines, onto the tiered mountain ranges of the Sierra Nevada. In summer the ridges blur into blue silhouettes in the haze; in winter the snow often reaches far down – and the contrast between the green valley and the white peaks is especially striking. The Sierra Nevada is the highest mountain range on the Iberian Peninsula: the Mulhacén reaches 3,482 metres, the neighbouring Veleta 3,396 metres. The massif is a national park and biosphere reserve, and on its northern slopes lies Pradollano, the southernmost ski resort in Europe. From Granada it is only around thirty kilometres to the snow – a closeness that makes the much-quoted day of skiing in the morning and the sea in the afternoon possible in the first place. Through the camera you can see how clear the view of the mountains is, whether clouds hang over the ridges and how far down the snow reaches in winter.
