About this webcam

The live weather webcam looks south across the Playa de Los Lances onto the Isla de las Palomas. The white lighthouse and the old fortress walls on the island are clearly visible; the island is connected to the mainland by a causeway. In front lie the broad sandy beach with its rows of parasols and the vegetated dunes; in haze the mountain ranges behind blur into blue silhouettes. The Isla de las Palomas marks the southernmost point of the European mainland – it is exactly here that the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet. The 19th-century lighthouse guides ships through one of the busiest straits in the world; the island itself is military land and not open to the public. On clear days you can see the Moroccan coast from here, only around fourteen kilometres away. Through the camera you can see how the wind stands over Los Lances, how the waves are running and how clear the view across the strait is. We also show the current readings from our weather station at Playa de Los Lances – temperature, wind, gusts and air pressure in real time – along with the hourly forecast, the wave forecast and the tides. Ideal for kite and windsurfers, hikers and anyone who likes to keep an eye on the south of Europe.
